Constructive Debate
We hope to bring back real civil debate to our national discourse.
While we are preparing our site, here are a few rules, goals, and guidelines we may have.
- No aliases – All accounts will be verified.
- Facts based on citable sources.
- Opinions, yours and others, will be stated as such and will follow this guideline “You are not entitled to your opinion. You are only entitled to what you can argue for.”
- No name calling, race baiting, douchebaggery, or any other uncivilized behaviour.
- Logical fallacies and Cognitive biases will be called out.
- No conspiracy theories, here is a nice checklist for determining if something could be a conspiracy theory.
- Accusations of censorship will be met with a deaf ear. The First Amendment does not apply to private enterprise. However, few things will be removed, unless someone gets abusive. Post may be locked, your posting rights may be suspended.
- Keep it about the issue. There may be a place to move off topic discussions.
- If you think you need to attack the messenger, your are probably losing your argument.
- Question your own assumptions. Take the Political Compass Test and post the results to your profile.
- All cited sources must conform one of the following (Yes, I know people have some issues with these ranking sites. Absent better resources this is what I am using, provide an alternative.)
- Be in the Green or Yellow boxes of the Media Bias Chart
- Be ranked Very High or High by Media Bias/Fact Check
These are just a start. I am open to suggestions on guidelines and software.
